Hair loss and FAQ

Hair Loss in Men and Women

Balding and hair loss affect not only men but women as well. Over 20 million women and 40 million men suffer from various forms of hair loss. Some inherit a genetic predisposition to lose their hair. Others suffer from traction alopecia, alopecia totalis, or alopecia areata. There is female pattern baldness, male pattern baldness and hair loss caused from the use of certain medications. Many women experience diffuse thinning all over rather than balding in a specific area while most men see recession in the hairline or crown. Regardless of which type of hair loss affects you, we can find a solution. We can give you a thicker and more beautiful head of hair. This can be done gradually or all at once depending on your needs. We will take into consideration your age and lifestyle. For you, we will achieve a natural look that will only enhance your appearance and make your life easier.

Frequently Asked Questions about Hair Loss

  • My father has a full head of hair. Does this mean I won't lose my hair?

No. You inherit a combination of genes from your mother and father. Hair loss is still possible even if your father has a full head of hair.

  • I heard that you inherit the baldness gene from your mother. If my maternal grandfather has a full head of hair, will I?

Not necessarily. Again, it depends on your genetic makeup.

  • How fast will I go bald?

There is no set formula for the rate of hair loss. Some people lose their hair very quickly at a young age and others lose their hair more slowly. Many of the clients choose to supplement their hair in the beginning stages of hair loss.

  • I frequently wear my hair in a tight ponytail or braids. Can this cause hair loss?

Yes when you continually put tension on the hair or pull the hairs out with braiding, it can cause hair loss or stress alopecia.

  • Can my scalp "breathe" if I wear a hat everyday?

Yes. Your scalp can still "breathe" as it gets nourishment from the blood supply. Wearing a hat can only cause hair loss if the hat is continually pulling hair out of the scalp. Most men find themselves wearing a hat to hide their hair loss.

  • It seems like I am losing lots of hair when I shampoo or brush my hair. I am thinking of shampooing less frequently. Will this help slow down my hair loss?

No. Shampooing or brushing your hair just removes the hairs you have already shed. It does not cause the hair loss.
